Tips for Building Stronger Connections

Car talk

One of the best times to talk with your child is in the car. Be open, honest and really listen.

More family time!

It’s quantity that matters. Consistent family dinners are better than a trip to Disney. How about Talk-O-Tuesday?

Disconnect from the phone

Implement rules around phone use: No phones at the dinner table, after 8 pm, or in their bedrooms to charge. Remember, a child doesn’t have to leave their bedroom to meet bad people.

Who, what, when, where?

Kids whose parents know who they are with, what they’ll be doing, where they will be and when they will be home  are less likely to abuse substances.

Connect with school administrators and board members

Advocate for prevention programs and more healthy risk-taking opportunities for kids.
